The new equipment organization moves your application from a three-level structure (Sites > Machine groups > Machines) to a four-level tree (Sites > Areas > Workcenters > Machines). This article explains what changes, what you gain, and how to activate then reorganize your equipment.
What changes
The old three-level structure becomes a four-level tree. The main change, beyond adding a level, is that each entity now has a single parent: a machine belongs to a single workcenter, itself attached to a single area, itself linked to a single site.
| Level | What it is | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Production site | Your factory or facility. | Lyon factory |
| Area (new level) | A subdivision of your site: a building, a workshop, a geographic or functional area. | Machining workshop |
| Workcenter | A grouping of machines that share the same manufacturing processes, closely matching your production reality. | Cutting line |
| Machine | An individual piece of equipment fitted with a Keyprod device. | Press P1 |
Do not confuse: the Area is the large set (workshop, building); the Workcenter groups, inside it, machines that share the same processes. You adapt these two levels to your shop-floor reality.
Good to know: depending on your organization, a former machine group may correspond to an area or to a workcenter. For example, a "Cutting line" group may become a "Cutting line" workcenter within a "Machining workshop" area; conversely, a broader group such as "Foundry" may become an area that contains several workcenters.
What you gain
- See all machines of a site at once, from any dashboard, instead of being limited to a single group.
- A finer selection: you can target down to the workcenter level (the finest selection level of these views), instead of being restricted to a single group.
- A new period selector: once the feature is activated, your dashboards get an enhanced period selector: choice of period type (remembered on the page) and display by shifts, by full day, or by custom hours. See New navigation in dashboards.
- Extra granularity in the Pareto of losses (at the area or workcenter level) and a more flexible Global losses dashboard.
- Soon, access to the Keyprod API: the new organization is a prerequisite for it. Available very soon, the API will make integration with your other tools (ERP, MES) easier.
- Preparation for the new schedules: the new organization is a prerequisite. These changes will be rolled out later and will allow a finer calculation of OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness).
Prerequisites
- Have the Administrator role: only this role can activate the feature.
- Plan to activate outside periods of high activity: it applies to all users of your organization.
Recommended: prepare your organization before activating
You can reorganize your equipment before activating the feature. This is the recommended method: clean up first, then activate. That way, at the time of the switch, your structure is already in place and your machines do not all end up grouped into a default area and workcenter.
To access the new equipment organization page without activating the feature yet, go to https://your-company.app-keyprod.com/settings/equipments, replacing your-company with your Keyprod platform subdomain.

Steps
1. Open the new equipment organization page
Access the new page at https://your-company.app-keyprod.com/settings/equipments (replace your-company with your platform subdomain), without activating the feature.
On the left, the Equipment hierarchy shows your tree (Site › Area › Workcenter › Machine). Click a level to display it in the center, with its Edit button and the list of its child items. The Access button (on the right of each row) lets you enter a site, an area or a workcenter to detail it further.
Set up your site (time zone and production day)
Select your site in the equipment hierarchy, then click Edit to open its settings:
-
Default site: designate a site as the default site (identifiable by the "Default" badge). Its time zone then serves as the reference for displaying several sites in a single Shopfloor dashboard, making it easy to compare their activity on a common time basis.
- Production day start time: set the time at which your production day begins. This bound replaces the calendar day (00:00-24:00) when calculating the periods of your Machine dashboards. For example, with a start at 06:00, a "Today" selection covers 06:00 to 06:00 the next day; without this setting, the day stays aligned on 00:00.
Good to know: these two settings determine the time display of your dashboards. For details on their effect (reference site in multi-site, production day), see New navigation in dashboards.
2. Create your areas and workcenters
Build your tree as closely as possible to your reality:
- From a site, click + Add an area;
- Enter an area (Access button) and add your Workcenters to it.
At any time, select a level in the Equipment hierarchy (on the left) to Edit it with the corresponding component.
3. Move your machines into the right workcenters
To move a machine, click Edit on the machine concerned. In the Update the machine window, open the Location tab, then attach the machine to the right area and workcenter.
Note: a machine can no longer belong to several groups at once. This multiple attachment was mainly used to find the same machine in several places; the new organization into areas and workcenters gives you this display flexibility without duplication.
4. Activate the new organization
Once your organization is ready, activate the feature: Settings / Organization / New features, then activate the "New equipment organization" option.
Note: activation applies to all users of your organization; plan it outside periods of high activity. Your data and history are preserved, and your aggregated KPIs attach to the corresponding areas and workcenters.
5. Check your organization
After activation, check that each machine is correctly attached to the right area and workcenter.
If you activate without having prepared your organization: all your machines are first grouped into a default area and workcenter ("default area / default workcenter for [your site name]"). You then reorganize them afterwards (same steps 2 and 3). If your site is simple (a single group, or even a single machine), you just rename these default entities; your aggregated KPIs stay attached to them.
Result
Your equipment is organized along the Sites > Areas > Workcenters > Machines tree. Your dashboards can be viewed by site, by area, by workcenter or by machine, and your organization becomes eligible for the new schedules when they are rolled out.
